What is Art Trade Revolution?

This account was made to promote a sense of comradery in a particular artistic community. More specifically, I knew a number of great artists from various Midwest anime conventions and wanted them to meet and greet each other, especially those hermits who rarely come out of their studios to make friends. Drawing people stuff is a great way to make friends!


How do I join Art Trade Revolution?

This isn't a club, so there is no 'joining' involved. Instead, when I decide to put together another Art Trade, I'll invite a group of people to participate. Groups are of about ten people, give or take, which should allow for a sense of friendship and cooperation. You're all in this together to make something for each other. (And you should be nice to everyone in your group, because you never know who is drawing a picture for you.) I encourage you to use each other for inspiration and knowledge.


Can I be invited to participate in the next Art Trade?

If you're interested, please send me a note, but that is no guarantee of an invite. Ya gotta have an e-mail that you check fairly regularly, and somehow prove that you're responsible enough to finish the art trade in a reasonable amount of time.


If I'm invited, what do I have to do?

You'll be assigned a person to draw a picture for, and given websites or other information about that person to research purposes. It's your responsibility to create a piece of artwork specifically for your assignment and give it to them as a gift. No strings attached.

I need a 72 resolution .jpg of your image to upload to arttrade-revolution, along with a description of the image and a title.

You are not allowed to tell your assignment that you are making a picture for them! Then, it will be a surprise when it's uploaded onto this site.


How are assignments chosen?

A number is randomly assigned to you. Then, I ask everyone to pick a number. Whoever picks your random number must draw a picture for you.


What if I finish my art trade, but the person drawing me a picture never finishes theirs?

Unfortunately, I predict this happening. If you don't recieve an art gift, I, or another volunteer artist, will make you something. You can't make a request (that wouldn't be very fair, huh?), and the image created will be up to the artist's discretion.


What if I don't finish on time?

While I stress you should really try to finish by the deadline, I'm pretty lenient as long as you keep me posted. I really want everyone to give and recieve an art gift, so no one is left out.


What if I don't ever finish?

I'll give everyone a week after the deadline date, then I'll attempt to contact you to find out what the hold up is. If I don't recieve a response or you tell me you can't/won't turn in a picture, your name/icon will be taken off the participants list, and you'll never be invited to participate in Art Trade Revolution again. Something like that just isn't fair to your assignment who has probably already turned in a picture for their assignment.

And I, or another artist, will have to pick up your slack to create a picture for your assignment. Please don't do that to me.


What if I make a picture for my assignment but DA rules and regulations won't allow it to posted?

If you do create a picture I can't put up, you won't be banned from Art Trade Revolution as you would if you simply didn't turn in a picture. Instead, your name/icon will remain in the participates list, you might be invited to participate in the future, but that picture won't be put up. You must send me a low resolution version of it anyway, as proof that you actually made it and your assignment is actually getting a gift from you, though. (I will be asking your assignment if they recieved it as well.) Use your discretion.


What type of picture do I have to create? Do I have to use a specific medium?

Create anything you like that you think your assignment would like. Please abide by Deviant Art's rules and regulations. Your assignment might really like hardcore porn, but I can't put it up, and if I can't put it up, what's the point of doing this art trade? And it doesn't matter what medium you use, just make something your assignment would like.

Most Art Trades will have a theme. The current theme is simply "Make your assignment a Christmas present".


What if I don't have a DeviantArt account?

Well, I think you should get one, but that's my opinion. If you don't have one, then I'll allow comments on the picture submitted to arttrade-revolution, and you'll have to check this account to see what people have to say about your picture. You won't be able to reply though.


What if I am a Deviant?

Then I will link to your picture on your site, and stop comments from being added on this account so they can be added to your page.


Why are there comments on some of the artwork already up on arttrade-revolution?

Because I had a momentary lapse of smartness, and thought it was a good idea to allow comments here. Sorry about that.


What if I have questions, don't know where to start, or am having troubles finding information on my asssignment?
